OUR HISTORY:
Roadrunner Lodge Motel has a rich history that we’re excited to share with you! Originally, the property started as two separate places. On the west side, the oldest part was built in 1947 as La Plaza Court. Some of our rooms feature vintage photos from that era, showing its original charm with adjacent garages. We’re thrilled to be renovating and planning to reopen this part soon! You’ll notice some bathrooms with vintage tiling and other retro touches that we’re preserving as we go.
In 1964, Agnes Leatherwood built Leatherwood Manor, where many local kids remember swimming in the pool and enjoying fun parties hosted by Mrs. Leatherwood. We’d love to find any photos of her legendary chandelier that used to hang in the living area!
For many years, the two properties operated separately, until 1985, when a new owner brought them together as one motel, expanding the lobby to unify the spaces. The old La Plaza Court lobby and living quarters were transformed into spacious multi-room suites.
Over time, the property changed hands and names, but in 2014, the current owner arrived and revived it as “Roadrunner Lodge.” When we started, it had been abandoned for over five years and needed a lot of TLC! We began with a new roof and restored power, as there was no electricity when we arrived. Then came plumbing repairs so we could turn the water back on. From there, we focused on each room, scrubbing, painting, and bringing them back to life one by one.
Today, we’re committed to making Roadrunner Lodge a place where guests feel right at home, surrounded by unique details and a welcoming atmosphere you’ll always remember.
